By 2019, FGA’s successful state-based welfare and health care reforms will put 3.4 million individuals back on the path to freedom and prosperity. Now, it’s time to bring these solutions to the federal government. By repealing ObamaCare, freezing Medicaid enrollment, and implementing work requirements for able-bodied adults on Medicaid or food stamps, we can pave the way for millions more Americans to escape welfare’s endless cycle of poverty and dependence.
A simple strategy Congress should consider to combat the danger of expanding Medicaid enrollment is an immediate enrollment freeze. Under this approach, no new applications for ObamaCare’s Medicaid expansion would be approved, but those already enrolled would be allowed to stay in the program until their situations improved and they became ineligible or until the end of the transition period, whichever came first. This would also mean no new states could expand eligibility under ObamaCare during the transition period.
